Divorce Survival 101...

We have heard people of faith and irreligious people alike quote the golden rule:

Mark 12:31 ...Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Usually when I have heard this quoted the emphasis is loving others.

But we must also love ourselves!

I'm not talking about self infatuation. Self aggrandizement. Selfishness that results in pride and rudeness. No!

I believe Jesus is very clear that we must love ourselves in order to love others. The beginning of respecting others is to respect ourselves.

We must survive divorce if we're going to be able to thrive at some point.

So what are you doing to take care of yourself today? What would it look like to love yourself physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally, relationally, financially, legally through this?

This is an opportunity to get our priorities straight. We must put the oxygen mask on ourselves before we try to put the oxygen mask on someone else only to pass out ourselves.

In another place Paul implored Christians:

Philippians 2:4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

We must consider our own best interests as we try to love others.

You can do this today! One step at a time. And I am here to help.

Walking with you,

– Kevin
